Don’t Just Read Your Script, Act It

by admin

I had the privilege of assessing the doll during an annual competition for young people over ten years. One of the rules of the event is being played, must be run from scripts, no pre-recorded, so I’ve seen have left hundreds of scripts over the years. Every year a few teams heading to the others. One reason is that they do not read scripts, they act.

Plays where the puppeteers are just read the lines usually poor and often a bit boring. If they think of as boring as an adult, to think of them children. How can the mere reading of the script where you are going to live?

Practice, practice, practice

First, they practice a lot of time if you are very familiar with the script. It can save the game and then listen again and again until it almost by heart. Then you can do it just by looking at the script instead of running to read. They have a good idea of what to say to each row and to be aware of what are bound with no writing.

You will probably change a few words in your lines running, but there is no problem. In fact, it’s a good thing because it comes out sounding natural. You may even find that you throw in a few ad-libs that will improve the area. Do not overdo it though or you risk your fellow puppeteers for the title or lose their jobs.

If the majority to read your words from your mind and not a page, the game flows naturally and is more of the attention of the public receive. Not only that, but you will be able to devote more attention to your doll and glued his eyes to the script. In addition, the delicate, quiet spaces, where a puppeteer desperately looking for its place in the script to be removed.

Energize Your Play

If you want to improve your game and make it one of the viewers remember is a key element, you must: enthusiasm! Enthusiasm is contagious. If you express through your puppets and the audience will be drawn into the game and their enthusiasm will grow.

Not only read the lines, but in the role. Would you portray the character with your puppet. If your character is happy, think about how to act when he is happy and the puppet act the same way. How do you act when you are sad? What is your body language? If your doll is sad, as far as possible, the same body language with him.

Read through the game from the perspective of the character. How would you feel if you were in this situation? What types of emotions that are hard hit and how they would be? Add drama to your game during your performance.

If you are reading the script, you run the risk, a show presented in boxes. If you need additional work in order to influence the game, you should see a difference in how the public reacts. You also see a difference in your puppeteers. Try it out. What have you to lose?
